#TeamGMMC are back with a hair-raising fundraiser

We’re never shy of an unusual fundraiser here at Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and this month is no different. 8 #TeamGMMC members, a 170ft clock tower and only one way to get down.

If you thought our Bus Pull was unusual, or the Manchester 24hr Run ambitious, then I’m sure our latest fundraiser will make you smile!

On Saturday, with the rain just starting to arrive, 8 members of #TeamGMMC were preparing themselves for a rather unusual weekend activity. The Trafford Centre’s iconic clock tower, standing 170ft high, was about to be ascended by some pretty nervous individuals.

#TeamGMMC  took it in turns to abseil down the tower, all to raise money for people at risk of experiencing or experiencing homelessness. Even our very own Fran Darlington-Pollock took to the ropes.

Thanks to #TeamGMMC for their commitment, and to the generosity of their friends, family and colleagues who donated in support.

Collectively, they raised over £1,700. These funds will go towards supporting organisations working on the front-line of the housing crisis. For example, this could translate into more than 50 nights of accommodation in our flagship scheme, A Bed Every Night.

A huge thank you to Dawn Kennedy, Fran Darlington-Pollock, George Hastie, Jess Gibbs, Phil Owen, Stephen Carr, Steve Perry and Yoni Ross. You all should be incredibly proud.

This is what Fran-Darlington Pollock had to say about the experience:

Heights, maybe, but walking backwards of a height, I was terrified! Having aborted a previous attempt to abseil – albeit when I was quite a bit younger – I wasn’t actually sure I could make it! But, with #TeamGMMC alongside, we all did it.

Events and activities like this help us bring in more funds, and more funds means we can deliver more grants. Our grants really can change lives, but we can only do it with you. Thank you to We Are Footprint, Cornerstones Design and Marketing, Clear Channel UK, and Hydrogen Safe for your team members!

Fundraising for us can come in many beautiful shapes and sizes. If this has inspired you to do your own whacky, or not so whacky fundraiser, please get in touch.

Together will we end homelessness.
